Becoming An Umpire
The following is what you need to do. The most important thing is registering with MIAA $35 for Cori check then $10 to register. Registering with the MIAA means you’ll be setting up an “Arbiter” account.
Fill out a HFBUA membership application out first and give us a check for $65 (dues)
- 1 – Register with MIAA. By doing so you’ll be registering with an baseball umpire association at that time. When you register with MIAA you will need to submit to a Cori background check through MIAA and it comes at a cost.
- 2 – Take the concussion course through NFHS. There is a link on our website or you can go to the NFHS site and get it there. It’s free and mandatory to take.
- 3 – Attend training classes which are normal held at the first of the year in January. These classes are not required but highly recommended. If the class schedule doesn’t work for you, reach back out to me as we will figure something out but most importantly work with you to get you on our rolls. There is a second option of doing the training class online through RefReps online training.
That course is $50. After you complete and pass the online course you will be required to take a mechanics class at our annual clinic March 15th 2025 at 9am
– Take the new candidates test. This test is given out by state umpires association MBUA and a passing score of 80% is needed.
Our website has most of this information for you. There is a listing of our meeting schedule. We hold our clinic hopefully on an actual field. We feed you at noon then we hold a meeting afterwards. We will have a vendor there as well if you need to purchase equipment or clothes.
